about

Riding The Cloud was the first track to appear on the Time and Tide album, yet it was the last one we wrote for it. Consequently, I have since felt it was recorded somewhat prematurely. It has been a live favourite for some time and I had been wanting to re-record the vocals in particular for a long while. So I took the decision to rework it. I thought that the main body of the song would lend itself well to being a "single" version in its own right. We also took the opportunity to touch up some other parts before remixing it from the ground up. This is more than just a "snipped" down version, each track has been carefully readdressed. It's a lyrically a favourite of mine and addresses the social anxiety which plagues me from time to time.

lyrics

Something strange is going on
Something nervous, something wrong
A twisting emptiness I find
Blurred perceptions in my mind
I can hear a thousand stares
Laughing faces everywhere
Second guessing what they think
Unsuspecting as I sink

Interaction seems impaired
An awkward silence in the air
Fumbled actions, stumbled words
Misconceptions are endured
Damned by those I called my friends
Do I blame myself again?
Mourning misplaced loyalty
Scarred by guilt and mockery

Riding the cloud
Drifting away
Guarding my thoughts
In every single way
Riding it out
Counting the days
Asking myself
If I’m fine
If I ride the clouds away

Tied in knots I try to breathe
Chasing demons in my sleep
Introspection closing in
Analysing every sin
I can hear a thousand stares
Laughing faces everywhere
Second guessing what they know
Questioning the undertow

Riding the cloud
Drifting away
Guarding my thoughts
In every single way
Riding it out
Counting the days
Asking myself
If I’m fine
If I ride the clouds away
